Between January and July 2020, the Tropical Forest Alliance (TFA) and Efeca carried out a programme of engagement with industry and civil society representatives on the priorities of the European Commission’s Communication on ‘Stepping up EU action to protect and restore the world’s forests’. Through surveys and a series of online roundtable discussion, the programme aimed to create space for these stakeholders, in particular industry representatives, to share their perspectives, experiences and inputs across a range of commodities and sectors to inform the development of evolving EU policies on deforestation and to share these with the European Commission. This paper is a summary of the points made during the roundtable discussions. It is not a position paper to which all roundtable participants have signed up; rather, it captures the issues on which participants’ views converged, and where they diverged – though it should be noted that discussions were characterised by a high degree of consensus.
